Here are some things to
evaluate when selecting a contractor for your next project:
Reliability
How long has the contractor
been in business in this area? Is he likely to
still be in business in 2 or 3 years if you need him? HOME Partners
dates back to 1982. We are members of the Chamber of Commerce,
the Better Business Bureau and several professional organizations.
Employee
Benefits
Does the contractor
offer benefits to his employees? This will significantly lower
the turnover and increase the experience of the crew working
on your job, which will relate directly to the quality of the
final product All of our full time employees are eligible
for benefits. Consequently, we have lower than average turnover
among our key people.
Written
Proposals
Make sure that you
receive a written proposal which clearly spells out what work
is to be done and for how much money. Also ask these questions:
Is this fixed price or an estimate? What happens if you run into
unforeseen circumstances? Will I be charged extra? Will you let
me know beforehand or just present a bill for extra a little
end of a job?
We always give written proposals,
and we try to be as clear as possible. If you have any questions
about what we are proposing, please feel free to ask.
Warranties
Find out what kind
of warranty you will get on the work- both from the contractor
and the manufacturer, if applicable. We will spell out the warranty
terms on our proposal whenever possible, and will give you a
written warranty at the end of the job. If you have any questions
about the warranty that applies to your job, please ask.
Insurance
You should make sure
that your contractor has insurance, both general liability and
workers comp. Make sure that both types of insurance are
listed on a "Certificate of Insurance" that the contractor
provides to you.
Unless the contractor is a
sole proprietor and no one else will be working on your property
he is required by law to carry workers comp insurance. If he
says that all of his guys work as subcontractors", this
usually means that he illegally pays them "under the table",
and that if something goes wrong or someone is hurt you will
end up holding the bag. All of our employees are paid legally
and are covered by workmans compensation as required by law.
References
Ask for references,
and check them out. Ask about the quality of the work and also
ask about the quality of the overall experience. We will be happy
to provide names of people in the area for whom we have done
similar projects.
Weighing
all these factors, in addition to price, when selecting a contractor,
will ensure that you receive maximum value for your home improvement
dollars.
We want to be your HOME Partners
. Give us a call---you'll be glad you did.
